Seems to me the issue is the frustration of closure. The attack is on
narrative conventions. If so, Twin Peaks I would say is more successful
than Mulholland Drive and the others because Twin Peaks takes advantage of
being a TV serial to escape becoming an object -- Mulholland Drive does
close as an object if not a narrative. So the questions would be: what is
the significance/epistemology etc of non-closure? and why is Twin Peaks
different from soap operas, West Wing, and other TV entities that go on
and on until they run out of viewership?
