You might take a look at Bertolucci's own Spider's Stratagem and The Conformist, which have a lot to say about fascism, and by extension, about the establishment which we were all rebelling against in 1970 His 1900 remains one of the few truly Marxism films made outside of Russia, putting Warren Beatty's Reds to shame.
Most of the films made in America about political activism in the sixties in America are horrible, but Haskell Wexlar's Medium Cool, John Sayles Return of the Secaucus 7 and Oscar winner Hearts and Minds are three that got it right
My favorite Godard on the period is Tout Va Bien ("Everything's Fine"), despite the distracting presence of Jane Fonda. Godard stole the cut away factory set idea from Jerry Lewis, and was proud of it.
