Dear List Members
Coastal Rainforest and Wildlife Expedition in Costa Rica
Your students can gain valuable fieldwork experience as an active member
of a Global Vision International research expedition during their summer
break or after their studies. Expedition members are required to join the
GVI research team throughout the year to participate in rainforest and
marine conservation in Tortuguero, on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
There is a free careers abroad field work placement and job vacancy
service for all former expedition members.
GVI is particularly interested in recruiting students from the fields of
environmental science, zoology, biology and other related degree courses.
Please share this information with your students (and fellow professors).
Expedition Focus
Costa Rica is well known for its biodiversity and the expedition takes you
into a maze of waterways and coastal rainforest bursting with fascinating
flora and fauna. Expedition members have the opportunity to assist with
both terrestrial and marine conservation projects, combined with community
education. Run in conjunction with GVI’s partners, including the Canadian
Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation, the
research teams play a vital role in the development and management of long-
term wildlife conservation and community education programmes in the
region.
Expedition members are needed for periods of 5, 10 and 15 weeks. Projects
include the resident bird study, marine turtle feasibility study, jaguar
predation of marine turtles and tourist impact assessments. No experience
is necessary as the GVI training programme will provide a baseline and
holistic understanding of all aspects of the area and project work.
