Archives for London invites you to the next in its series of seminars,
to be held on 7 September 2006 at London Metropolitan Archives.
USING ELECTRONIC RESOURCES FOR RESEARCH
What historical information is currently available on the internet? Learn
about guidelines on accuracy and reliability and how to find the latest
resources
This seminar will be delivered by Ruth Paley of the History of Parliament,
who also edits the AfL newsletter.
An increasing variety of historical information and digitised texts are
available on the internet. Some are free, some are affordable but many are
beyond the reach of those who research for the love of it. This session
explores some of the historical resources available on the web, looks at
their advantages and disadvantages and ponders the fate of those unable to
access the riches available.
Archive users will find this seminar invaluable for enhancing their
research through on-line tools. Practitioners will gain insight into the
best online resources to provide for their users in a world of spiralling
subscription prices.
Doors will open at 5.30 and the talk will start at 6pm. Refreshments will
be available. The seminar is an open forum and following the talk attendees
are welcome to ask questions, exchange news, and discuss matters of
interest. The event will finish at 7.30pm.
Please let Nicola Avery know if you are coming - e-mail her on:
[log in to unmask] or telephone 020 7332 3816. If you book a
place but are unable to attend on the night please let Nicola know as soon
as possible, as failure to do so may deprive someone else of a place if the
event proves popular.
