The Center for the Arts in Society
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
2007-08
Scholars and artists who have received their terminal degree within the last seven years in any field of humanistic inquiry or artistic endeavor are invited to apply for an Arts in
Society Fellowship, supported by the Center for the Arts in Society at Carnegie Mellon University (http://www.hss.cmu.edu/cas/). The purpose of this fellowship is to provide
scholars with time to further their own work in a cross-disciplinary setting, to associate with distinguished faculty, and to contribute to an innovative humanities and arts initiative
at the University.
One Fellow will be appointed to the Center for the Arts in Society for the academic year 2007-2008, and will be awarded a stipend plus a $5000 research grant. The Fellow will
teach one undergraduate course each semester that bridges the arts and humanities. The fellow will also participate in the work of the Center for the Arts in Society, which
sponsors conferences, lectures and colloquia, and give one public lecture. A Fellow is expected to be in residence in Pittsburgh during the term of the fellowship. The fellowships
will provide a stipend of $35,000 and full university benefits.
Applications should address the issue of "arts in society," offering a unique interdisciplinary perspective on the topic. A research proposal and a suggested course should
demonstrate this perspective, both in terms of the contribution to future work and in terms of new course content.
Carnegie Mellon is an EEO/AA Employer.
