Medical statistician
The Institute of Cancer Research, one of the world’s leading cancer research
centres, is looking for a medical statistician to join the Cancer Screening
Evaluation Unit in the Section of Epidemiology. The work of the Unit
includes large scale, long-term trials of screening for cancer sites where
it is not yet of proven benefit, the evaluation of existing screening
programmes and studies looking at specific aspects of screening.
The post will involve work on a number of projects within the Unit including
modelling of cancer incidence and mortality rates, and the impact of
screening on these rates; analyses of data from screening trials including a
multi-centre European trial of screening for prostate cancer and developing
models of the natural history of cancer and the effect of screening
There will be the opportunity to work on methodological issues related to
cancer screening. The possibility to register for a part-time PhD exists
for a suitably qualified person.
Applicants should hold a MSc or PhD in medical statistics or similar
discipline In addition they should have a high degree of computer literacy
and knowledge of STATA or similar statistical package. Experience of working
in a research or health services environment is desirable.
This appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract for 3 years in the first
instance with a starting salary in the range £23,619 to £27,973 p.a.
