A summary of my request for Power analysis/Sample Size Book
recommendations for clinical trials and observational studies were as
follows:
Total of six replies of which,
3 mentioned: Machin D, Campbell M, Fayers P, Pinol A. Sample size tables
for clinical
studies, 2nd Edition. London, Edinburgh, Malden and Carlton: Blackwell
Science 1997
And included comments such as
"As well as the tables, there is excellent explanatory text and
formulae."
and
"It includes sample sizes for correlation coefficient, survivial
curves, Phase II trials and Observer agreement."
1 mentioned: The Design and Analysis of Clinical Experiments by J L Fleiss
(John Wiley & Sons New York 1986).
Same person also pointed me to Lenth, R. V. (2006). Java Applets for
Power and Sample Size at http://www.stat.uiowa.edu/~rlenth/Power .
1 mentioned: "A fairly wide-ranging paper by Stephen Julious (Statist.
Med. 2004;
23:1921-1986 (DOI: 10.1002/sim.1783)) could be looked at before you go
looking for books."
1 mentioned : Chow S-C, Shao J & Wang H (2003) Sample Size Calculations in
Clinical Research. Marcel Dekker Ltd [M] {IOP}
Many thanks to the six people who replied. Amazon do not stock the Machin
et al book and I failed to uncover a website that sells it on Google. This
seems to narrow down my book choice somewhat. If anyone knows where I
could buy the Machin book I would much appreciate it.
Kind regards,
Stephen
