Brian,
You can certainly include Surrey in your request please.
I should add that I had some queries about the data and methodology in
last year's Guardian tables and the editor of the Guardian Education
supplement was very co-operative in giving me the information I needed
so I hope for an equally co-operative approach on this matter!

Dear Brian,
Please include Reading in a combined request to the Guardian for a
disclosure of their league table methodology.

Subject: Re: Guardian League Table
Dear All,
I'm sure that if the Guardian published information on its banding
method that this would immediately show up some apparent anomolies.
All we would require is the levels at which the various bands were set
(which they used to publish for unit costs in the early days); the
number of institutions in each band (although it's possible to get this
from the published information, it's a slog); and finally notification
to individual institutions of their absolute score within a particular
band.
If a large number of us sent in a combined request for this information
(possibly at V-C level), how could they reasonably refuse?
Anyone interested in such an approach?
Regards Brian

Guardian
about the construction of the overall score. At the UUK event last year,
it was clear to the Guardian and Campus PI that HEIs were looking for
more transparency about the construction of the scores from the raw
data. It is hard to understand how the Guardian expects to improve HEI
'buy-in' to the table when the methodology is so opaque.

discrepancy between our subject scores and our overall score, and, when
this was pointed out to the Guardian, we rose almost 50 places in the
rankings overnight (over 2 nights, technically). As far as I can see,
Campus Pi is simply a centre in Brunel's School of Information Systems,
Computing and Mathematics - is there no way of requesting the
methodology under FoI?
