I would very much appreciate the experience of others regarding the stability of BNP in whole blood prior to analysis. We are moving from a NTproBNP assay to a BNP assay which quotes 4 hrs stability of BNP in whole blood prior to analysis. There does seem to be considerable variation in the literature about the length of time at room temp that BNP is stable - some say as long as 72hrs. For the use of BNP measurements in primary care, 4 hrs seems a bit short (although it has focussed our attention on trying to sort out the transport of specimens from primary care to the lab within this time!).
Any advice/experience gratefully received!
Rob
