One is frequently made aware of the inconvenience and annoyance to our
clients and ourselves which results from samples which have deteriorated
or been delayed in transit from some more or less remote collection site.
How many suspect potassium results do we view, how many telephone calls
made and re-collections organised?
The advantages of placing centrifuges in collection centres is becoming
more compelling. The stability of separated PST or SST samples can
obviate so many problems around servicing the primary care sector
efficiently and well. Specimen pick-ups by transport can be arranged
better. I don't believe that the process is costly or dangerous with
modern equipment. Clinical chemistry is only a small part of the material
sent to path labs, but surely this Carter-friendly initiative is overdue?
Happy Christmas LISTners,
David.
