A two-day national conference addressing the subject of widening
participation in UK higher education and marking the establishment by
Lancaster University of the School of Lifelong Learning and Widening
Participation
Conference Themes:
1) Concepts, Context and Policy
2) Research and Evaluation
3) Good Practice
Conference Aims:
1) To consider values, meanings, origins and policies and the future
direction of UK widening participation and AimHigher programmes
2) To assess research and evaluation in widening participation and its
implications
3) To identify and to share good practice in widening participation and
AimHigher work
Keynote Speakers:
1) Professor Stephen Gorard, Department of Educational Studies,
University of York
2) Kevin Whitston, Head of Widening Participation, HEFCE
3) Professor Keith Percy, Director of the School of Lifelong Learning
and Widening Participation, Lancaster University

Please send abstracts (maximum 300 words) to Rosemary Hindley at the
address below, showing clearly how they reflect one of the three
conference themes.
