Elizabeth,
You may find a reference in the Annals. A few years ago there was an article on McArdle's syndrome with the effect of tourniquet-induced ischaemia being monitored with lactate and ammonia levels.
Regards
Jeff

Subject: Tourniquet for lactate samples
I have recently been asked by the Emergency Department about how much
effect a tourniquet makes on a venous lactate and if the sample should be
taken immediately or after several samples i.e chemistry and cbc. Does any
one have information on the effect of a tourniquet on venous lactate. They
are using it as part of diagnosing severe respiratory illness with
associated sepsis
Thanks
Elizabeth Mac Namara
