medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Just to let people know that Terence Bailey's "The Processions of Sarum and
the Western Church" (1971), along with other publications of the Pontifical
Institute of Mediaeval Studies, is available (I use the word loosely) from
them as a "on demand" paperback - although this may just be a ruse to avoid
the book-trade. (Quite why Amazon should be seen as an evil of the modern
world is beyond me - it is hardly in the same league as George W. Bush or
Microsoft.) How one should obtain a copy in e.g. Britain is an interesting
theological question. The website http://www.pims.ca/ suggests that orders
from "Europe" should be addressed to Brepols, but whether that includes us
is anyone's guess. Needless to say, the Brepols website is blissfully
unaware of the availability - perhaps someone should explain to them what
"on demand" means. I got my copy from Eighth Day Books of Wichita, Kansas -
although such an extraordinary rendition is hardly cost effective.
A.H. Pearson's "The Sarum Missal in English" (1868) was republished in 2004
by Wipf and Stock Publishers, and this time is available through Amazon -
although it may have been produced by a similar technique, as my copy had
two rather crucial pages missing. But the good folks of Eugene, Oregon sent
me a replacement copy!
