In the Sarum Calendar, a Minor double feast.
With all the feasts running together after Christmas, they tended to end up
with only one Vespers each. St Stephen's Day was for the deacons: so on
Christmas Day after Vespers the Deacons assembled in copes with lighted
candles and processed to the altar of St Stephen singing a respond, and the
priest censed the altar and the image of St Stephen, before returning to the
choir.
The following day the priests processed to the Apostles' altar [there was no
St John's altar].
