medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (26. December) is the feast day of:
Stephen (d. c. 34) Stephen was a Jewish convert to Christianity,
elected one of the first seven deacons; he has the distinction of
being the first Christian martyr. The story appears in the Acts of
the Apostles, chs. 6-7.
Dionysius (d. 268 or 269) Dionysius was a Roman priest, elected
bishop of Rome in 259. His pontificate fell in a period of religious
toleration, and he even seems to have died of natural causes.
Tathai (5th-6th cent.) Tathai (Tathan, Tathar) was an Irishman who
went to Wales with eight disciples. He founded a monastery in Gwent,
winning the nickname "Father of all Gwent."
