medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Since Pope Saint Damasus (4th c.) provoked this whole discussion, it would
seem that the laws and definitions of that period would apply. As for the
date of my citation, it is from the 1994 edition of the CCC. But a tad
earlier, Jesus said: "[E]very one who looks at a woman lustfully has already
committed adultery with her in his heart." No specification as to the
marital state of the lustful one. I'm unclear as to the relevance of the
medieval period or English law to the alleged adultery of Pope Saint
Damasus. And here I end my meager contributions.
