medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
"When two partners, of whom at least one is married to another party, have
sexual relations - even transient ones - _they_ commit adultery. [Note the
plural.] Christ condemns even adultery of mere desire." ("Lusting in one's
heart" has a certain resonance for Americans of a certain age :-))
I infer from this that both parties are guilty of the same sin regardless of
a particular party's marital status. Of course, in the "mere desire" case,
the one lusted after is innocent of that sin unless the lust is deliberately
provoked... And please don't ask for a definition of "transient sexual
relations"!! Bill East is on the list and he might respond - to our great
hilarity but to the list owners' displeasure.
