I have been lurking on the CHAT list for some time now and getting more and
more interested in the ideas of contemporary and historical archaeology, and
I was wondering if list members could help me with a couple of things?
Firstly, can someone please recommend a good book for me to start with that
would help me get to grips with contemporary and historical archaeological
theory? I am currently reading “Archaeological Theory, an introduction” by
Matthew Johnson, but was wondering if there is an introductory text dealing
more specifically with CHAT.
Secondly, could someone please explain the time period referred to in the
word “contemporary” within CHAT? When does “contemporary” become “modern”?
Or put another way, is contemporary synonymous with 20th and 21st century
archaeology or does it just refer to the here and know?
With good wishes to all list members for Christmas and the New Year.
