You could also promote them by using them in conjunction with your Library
Catalogue to provide readers/students with a range of information resources
including the "traditional" library stock and the elctronic resources within
a subject- or theme-based context. I've started doing this on our online
catalogue, though our funding structure means that we can't buy online
subscriptions and licences from the book fund so the electronic resources
I'm pointing at are all freely-available web pages. You'll see what I mean
if you have a look at the "neat stuff" and "homework help" tabs on our Kids'
Portal http://libraries.rochdale.gov.uk/ipac20/ipac.jsp?profile=dial--11 I'm
currently working on similar for the general web catalogue ("links for
readers" and "learning & lifestyle") and Local Studies.
This approach does raise issues of user authentication, etc. with subscribed
services. Some library management systems have "add-ons" to do this.
Alternatively, these resources could be menu options on the front end of the
People's Network within libraries.

Subject: E- resources
Hello all
Does anyone have any good ideas for ways to promote e-resources? We flag up
the sites we subscribe to on the home pages of our individual websites but
don't really go any further to promote them. We're very aware that we pay a
significant amount for subscriptions but don't get very high usage. All
suggestions gratefully received.
Many thanks
