Rosemary, many thanks - that is just what I was looking for, although the
outcome is rather surprising! It seems Pearson was right - and Maskell was
mistaken when he used the Bangor Pontifical as eveidence that his Missal was

This brings us back to the original reference: are there any Cranmer experts
in the house? Two questions arise:
1. Did Cramner write the Preface to the 1549 Book of Common Prayer? (It
seems to be generally assumed that he did.)
2. If so, why did he make reference to the Bangor Use and Lincoln Use?
