Dear Patrick
Thanks for your comment. However, I still think there is an overlap and
confusion:
(I am not mixing up 'consultative committees' with 'comitology committees':
they are two totally distinct types of committee, the latter are not 'European
Commission' committees as such at all, for example).
However, the key point about CONECCS is that it is divided into two distinct
parts:
Consultative Bodies
Civil Society Organisations
What you describe as being in CONECCS is only the second section. The first
section 'Consultative bodies' is made up of committees or bodies established by
the European Commission. On CONECCS the perspective is of those committees set
up by the Commission which have civil society participation.
However, the new Register of Expert Groups seems to list essentially the same
type of committee or group, except without any specific civil society
perspective (thus, a committee which has no civil society members but instead is
exclusively made up of national experts from governmental authorities might be
listed in the Register but not CONECCS).
So, while I can see a logic behind what is in CONECCS and the new register, the
end result for the 'citizen' is confusion (I think)!
Best wishes
Ian
