Hi all
I sent out a request for information regarding the use of the terms
ableism and disablism about two months ago. Many thanks to all that
responded and confirmed my suspicion that there are as many different
views as there are people!
What I found most useful and interesting was a response that referred to a
distinction that has been made between the two, i.e. that they refer to
different forms of discrimination (crudely, that ableism is discrimination
on the basis of attitudes, and disablism on the basis of structural
disadvantage).
I was told that Jenny Morris has made this distinction, but cannot seem to
find the source. If someone could direct me it would be much appreciated!
Kind regards
Harriet
