medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Jim,
I'm not sure, whether we have a complete german Reimbibel, but I'm also no
quite versed in 17 th century matters... There is a dutch Rijmbijbel by
Jakob van Maerlant about 1270 and also german poems and fragments on various
biblical books of NT and OT. The oldest ones come from 9th century, most of
them are from the 11th and 12th c. or later. The german knights order seems
to be especially interested in rhymed german OT-narratives.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about the later centuries and I can't
give You a good clue to editions of those poems either, but maybe You'll
find something helpful in the following literature:
D. Kartschoke, B., Studien zur Geschichte der epischen Bibelparaphrase von
Juvencus bis Otfrid v. Weißenburg, 1975.
A. Masser, Bibel- und Legendenepik des deutschen Mittelalters (Grundlagen
der Germanistik 19), 1976.
C. Soeteman, Deutsche geistliche Dichtung des 11. und 12. Jh., 1963, 2.,
überarb. und erg. Aufl. (Slg. Metzler 33), 1971.
Best greetings !
Yours Vera
