Well, you and I agree that that is the case, but that is not what Tolhurst
says: "The liturgical day begins with Vespers sung on the preceding
evening..." He doesn't make except an exception for ferias, hence his
peculiar remark about second Vespers.

I would tend to agree with you, but can't find that anyone says that!
