medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello, everyone:
Many thanks for the concern and good wishes. No saints yet---I still
don't have power at home, and figured it was carrying zeal too far to
haul saints' books to the university when I came this morning to
check my e-mail.
Hattiesburg is doing a pretty good job cutting itself out after
Katrina. There are large trees down EVERYWHERE (including the
100-year oak tree in my back yard, which just nicked the corner of
the roof on its way down, but then destroyed my deck instead of my
house; and the half tree that fell on my car and, amazingly, did it
almost no damage), which is making the job of restoring electricity
particularly interesting. But things are starting to look a little
closer to normal. Some stores have been able to open, work crews are
all over the place (we have 3800 workers from out-of-state electric
companies in addition to our own), and emergency workers are starting
to be able to get gasoline (!) In short, we're a great deal better
off than New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
I hope to be back with the list again soon.
Phyllis
