21st HIMALAYAN-KARAKORAM-TIBET WORKSHOP
29th – 31st March Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, UK
First Circular and Call for papers
The principal forum for discussing all aspects of India-Asia collision for
the last two decades, the Himalayan-Karakoram-Tibet Workshop, returns this
year to its original host country. The 21st International Workshop will be
held on 29th-31st March 2006 at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, UK. In the
tradition of previous HKTs, oral sessions on different themes will be held
concurrently at a single venue, to avoid parallel sessions. Poster
presentations will be adjacent to the main lecture room, and delegates
will be accommodated in the same college as the academic sessions,
allowing ample time for in-depth discussion and debate throughout the
meeting. To help fuel discussion from the very start, an ice-breaker
reception is planned for the evening of the 28th March.
Sessions on the following themes are planned:
1) Deep structure, large-scale tectonics and thermo-mechanical modelling
2) Exhumation and erosion: mechanisms, feedbacks, timing and sedimentary
record
3) Tectonics: metamorphism, melting, geochronology, structure
4) Tectonics: structure and stratigraphy
5) Climatic impacts: global impacts, weathering; plateau uplift and the
Asian monsoon
Abstracts are invited from those who wish to make an oral or poster
presentation, and will be published in a special issue of the Journal of
Asian Earth Sciences. Submission of abstracts will be online for greater
convenience (see link below), as part of a dedicated website for the
meeting that will also contain information on registration, schedules,
travel and accommodation, social events, contacts and any other
announcements. As the academic programme develops, further information
will be posted on the same site. The organizers will be offering travel
grants for overseas delegates; further details to follow.
A website with more detailed information will shortly be accessible at:

Deadline for submission of abstracts & registration: 15th December
