Dear All
Wiley would like to propose a new feature of The Cochrane Library: the
Online Clinician’s Logbook. This is intended as an electronic version of
the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine's Asking Answerable Questions
Logbook and could form part of Wiley InterScience's development work in
2006.
We hope the Online Clinician's Logbook will promote evidence-based practice
by enabling clinicians to store questions, searches, citations, and notes
electronically at the source of the evidence. We hope it will also provide
a useful method of recording CME and appraisal material and enhance the
functionality of The Cochrane Library.
The logbook would capture search, date of search, and useful citations as
selected by the user from tick boxes on the search results page. It would
also allow the user to make notes about the search and search results, eg,
appraisal notes and the clinical bottom line. The logbook would remain
active in a separate browser window whether the user was searching,
browsing, or reading papers, and its contents would be fully searchable. A
discussion document with screen mock-ups is available at
http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/homepages/106568753/EBM_logbook.pdf.
We are interested in your views on the usefulness of such a tool. Please
take a few minutes to reply to this email, typing your answers in the
spaces below the questions. Thank you for your time.
1. Would you use an online clinician's logbook to record your EBM activity,
or do you know anyone who would?
2. Why? (Why not?)
3. What features would be desirable in an online logbook?
4. Are you a librarian, a researcher, a clinician, or none of these? (If
none, please enter your job title.)
5. We will evaluate all the responses and, if this project goes ahead,
include suggestions from this questionnaire in a functional prototype.
Would you be interested in testing this? (If yes, please provide your name
and contact details below.)
