Are you sure you're taking the right approach? If you're interested
in "telephone questionnaire versus face to face interview" then
would you not also be interested in "telephone interview versus
face to face interview" or "face to face questionnaire" as well?
I would have thought a better search term would be
"telephone" AND "face to face"
if that's the sort of thing you're after. Using "telephone" NOT
ADJACENT TO "interview", it seems to me, would both catch cases
you are not interested in, and miss cases you are interested in,
compared with a search which was explicit about what you are
really trying to find.
