DEWEY: A BEGINNERS' GUIDE

This is a practical introduction to DDC22, designed to give a sound working knowledge of Dewey, from basic navigation of the scheme and simple number allocation to the building of complex notation.
BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
Having completed the workshop participants should be able to carry out simple classification with Dewey, recognise built numbers and be able to build notation to describe subjects appropriately.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL:
* be familiar with the strengths of Dewey
* have practically reviewed the basic aspects of Dewey
* be able to carry out classification using Dewey
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Any information workers who are required to use Dewey and want to know how. Information managers who wish to classify information and have no experience of classification schemes. A suitable re-fresher for those who have used Dewey, but not recently.
WORKSHOP LEADER KEITH TRICKEY
Keith is lead trainer with Sherrington Sanders and is also a part time lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University. He has been involved in information work for over twenty years and he has been designing and delivering training for over ten years, both for CILIP and for specific clients. His work for training in cataloguing areas was acknowledged by the Alan Jeffrey's Award from the LA Cataloguing and Indexing Group in 1997 for the development of training.
