medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

having only learnt classical Latin at school, it never occurred to me that
'simbolum' could just mean creed - but I may be able to help with the ave
maria: according to Colin Morris, 'by 1210 a synod at Paris was requiring
its knowledge by all believers along with the Creed and the Lord's Prayer'.
(p. 464 of Papal Monarchy; he gives a ref. to H. Graef, Mary: a History of
Doctrine and devotion)
