Not to mention knitting, and several forms of embroidery, which seem
to have followed the same transmission route: invented in Islamic
culture, exported to Spain, and then diffusing out into the rest of
Europe. There is, for instance, an embroidered 13th-century cushion
in the Panteon of the Monastery of Las Huelgas, in Burgos, which is
signed "V S A I N" (i.e. Husain), apparently the signature of the
embroiderer. In the same collection is a knitted silk cushion with
Kufic lettering ("Baraka" or "blessing") repeated all around the
border.
