Ohyes, I am a musicologist...

Yes. The compilation of the Antiphonale Missarum was a very complex
undertaking, involving the crossing of different chant traditions, each
one with its own biblical translations and arrangements.
Even inside the roman tradition, we have to deal with the pure roman
version and the carolingian reform. Even inside the carolingian reform,
the medieval mass --and even more office-- texts know many many
local versions.
When passing through different rites, a chant can change its meaning,
like the introit Sitientes, a mozarabic baptismal chant for Holy
Saturday, which comes up as the introit of a quadragesimal feria
in the roman and gregorian graduale.
One could say, that the choice of the proper chant texts was
somehow modular and the process of fixation was a slow one.
I agree, the study of such a matter is very complex, also because
we don't have written texts for the proper chants before the late
VIIIth Century. Here music and modality can help sorting out
different strata of the chant traditions, together with the study of
the different psalmic translations involved.
Avec mes meilleures salutations
