Indeed, but my email pgm, Thunderbird, does some little conversions of
plaintext so that _a little underline at the beginning and end_ will be
converted into continuous underlining, and *likewise, asterisks to
enclose a phrase* will make it boldface and /slash around words/ will
make them italic. Even if your email client doesn't do this, the _ *
and / are handy signifiers in plaintext messages.
