medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (10. June) is the feast day of:
Ithamar (d. c. 656) Ithamar was the first Anglo-Saxon to become a
bishop in England. He succeeded Paulinus as bishop of Rochester in
644.
Landericus (d. c. 660) Landericus (Landry) became bishop of Paris in
650. He was famous for his care of the poor; he even sold church
equipment to feed them during a famine.
Bogimilus (d. 1182) Bogimilus was born near Dobrow (Poland). He
studed at Paris (with his twin brother, who had the unlikely name
Boguphalus). On his return, B. built a church at Dobrow and became
its pastor. He went on to be chancellor of Gniezno (appointed by his
uncle the archbishop) and succeeded as archbishop in 1167. B.
founded a Cistercian monastery. But B's clergy found him too strict,
and the rebelled and forced his resignation in 1172. He went and
became a Camaldolese at Uniedow. B's cult was approved in 1925.
