And, of course, there was no access to reliable medical treatment,
justice, social security etc . . . .
we in the immensely comfortable and secure West have, in the main, lost our
sense of "desperation" --or only very rarely experience it.
things were very, very different en ces temps la, i suspect, with Desperation
and Fear being endemic and Primary Motivators.
of course, Mother Church was ever-present to minister to those.
