Dear All,
The Cilip Information Literacy Group is working on establishing a
cross-sectoral information literacy website.
As public library rep on, I have been asked to gather opinion from staff in
public libraries as part of the scoping for this project. Specifically, the
group would like to establish some details from staff in the public library
sector:
* Brief indication of the extent and nature of information literacy in
the public sector
* The terminology used to discuss information literacy activity in the
public sector (audience development, reader development, basics skills, life
skills, etc.)
* Whether individuals with experience of information literacy in
public libraries or CILIP public library group members would wish to work on
the creation of the IL website for information literacy and related activity
within the public library sector:
o formally by providing written content.
o informally by suggesting links and promoting the web site
o Consider suggesting relevant links and content for information
literacy and related activity within the public library sector
I am particularly interested in terminology. I personally suspect, coming
from the public sector, that the term information literacy is not that
familiar and for cross-sector working, some common understanding of language
is vital.
The intention is to create a single site for all sectors within the library
community, for example: Schools, NHS, Public, Government etc.
The concept is that:
* This site will be the information literacy website.
* The site will have partners from all sectors and either host or
point to quality information resources on IL.
*
*
*
* T
* he target audience of the website is library and teaching staff who
deliver information literacy teaching.
If anyone has anything they wish to contribute, I would be really grateful
to receive your thoughts.
Regards
Andrew Lewis
