Paul,
Might it be possible to find someone in HE to take a list on for youa all?
There is an interesting link in the sense that HE students and staff come
from all walks of life & at various stages in their own lives. i.e as young
undergrads, more mature student/researchers/lecturers etc. with their own
children in tow and may also be single persons, from overseas with their own
ESOL issues & so on.
Although discussions of public library stock issues are hardly core to HE
interests, quite how marginal they are is certainly up for debate with the
rollout of the Inspire initiative and a healthy dialogue between publib
expert practitioners with some injection of views & commentary from various
HE angles seems in itself a legit aspiration.

Subject: Stock selection forum - update on progress
Hello all
I was amazed by the response I got to my first email to this list - nearly
100 expressions of interest so far. However, I have hit a snag, as JISC
mail have refused to host the list, as I am not in the academic sector
(JISC is funded by the higher education community).
I have asked CILIP if they can help and am awaiting a response. There are
other options, such as Yahoo groups that I am investigating. However, it
needs to be simple, in the way that JISCmail is simple. Does anyone have
any suggestions?
Many have asked whether such-and-such issue can be discussed. Once the list
is up & running, members will decide what to discuss. I am not going to
intervene unless things go completely off the track or we have a lapse in
good manners. Ditto the issue of who can join - anyone interested & with an
opinion on stock selection in public libraries is welcome to participate,
especially Tim Coates!
JISC did offer a paid for subscription (£100 per year) so perhaps we can
weedle the money from CILIP or SCL, anyone on the list who could make that
decision?
Regards
Paul Forrest
