medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Submissions are invited for the 33rd Annual Sewanee Medieval
COlloquium, on the theme of Power in the Middle Ages. The dates of
the meeting are Friday and Saturday 7 and 8 April 2006. Plenary
lecturers: Janet Nelson, King's College, London; C. David Benson,
University of Connecticut.
For members of the list, papers might focus on: sainthood and power;
images and the power; gender relations and religious life; relations
of power between Christians and non-Christians; divine power; demonic
power; ecclesiastical thought on secular and religious power; papal
power; episcopal power; relations of power within and between
religious houses or orders and between these and the broader society
... and many other issues.
Deadline for submissions: 1 October 2006. Please send abstract of
approx. 200 words and brief c.v. E-mail submissions welcome. If you
know at this stage that you would like to submit something, a brief
note to that effect would be welcome.
