mmmm.... i'm afraid that Dog won't Hunt, John.
face it: it's just a bad (as in "defective", not necessarily "evil") Plan.
the normal, accepted convention when drawing a gound plan is to show the
vertical members of the building in their most distinctive form which, in this
case, would be to show the elements of the main arcade as double columns
(i.e., as twin circles on the plan) ; not the solid rectangles which we have
here which, strictly speaking, suggest that there are unarticulated piers
rectangular in plan makng up the main arcade of the nave.
to get this form in a plan one would have to specify his "tranche vertical" as
being either at the level of the plinths beneath the double columns
http://www.mondimedievali.net/Edifici/Puglia/tran17.jpg
or at that of the abaci/impost blocks above the capitals on those columns
http://www.trani.org/trani/turismo/itinerari/immaginidatabase/dcp_0529.jpg
neither one of which is "normal" for a ground plan.
again, note the ("good") plan of Sens
http://www.beloit.edu/~arthist/historyofart/gothic/images/sens6.jpg
which conveys an accurate idea of what the significant part of the elevation
looks like, both in the double columns and the compound piers, as well as the
alternation of them which is such an important part of the overall design of
the elevation:

note that the double columns share the same rectangular plinth
http://www.beloit.edu/~arthist/historyofart/gothic/images/sens4.jpg
it's just a "convention", but a useful one.
i can't recall ever seeing such an error being made before.
