He was connected with East Caradon Mine in Cornwall 1907-8, was manager at Golden Dagger tin mine in Devon c. 1920-1926, and then moved to Wales where he managed a copper mine near Beddgelert. While there he invented a successful crushing machine which was patented. He later moved to a gold mine, also in Wales. I would be specially grateful for sources on the Welsh mines and interested to know if anyone else has come across this character, or his crushing machine!

The most likely site for the mine near Beddgerlert seems to be Cwm Bychan mine, which was reopened c1925, although I don't think it appeared in the official List of Mines until c1928. There are foundations of a small mill remaining on site. The best source is David Bick's Old Copper Mines of Snowdonia. See also JS Wilkinson's source list for North Wales mines on the web (I have checked this for Flewin which didn't come up), and a paper on Copper Mining in North Wales by the late D. Morgan Rees of the National Museum of Wales. Sorry I don't have these immediately to hand so cannot give full details yet. Also I have some MSS notes on the mine which my parents collected c1960. Regarding the Welsh gold mines, the best sources are Wilkinson (referred to above) and the books by G.W. Hall and T.A. Morrison. I cannot recall coming across Albert Flewin in any of these sources, however. Alasdair Neill.
