medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I need some help as seeing this as the BVM. Ears poking out? The chin?
The right hand looks like it is held to represent the Trinity, thumb holding
down 1st finger so only 3 stick up. I don't see a small round object.
DW
i note that he also explains my "curious _mudra_" of the BVM as "a small
round
object in her right hand", almost clearly visible in the nice color plate he
publishes but not quite so in Carlos' .jpg

Z. also speaks of a John and Luke doing a twin act on a nearby tympanum at
Aston --again, i insist on the comparative rarity of suchlike double
evangelist symbol iconographies until Jim corrects me.
an then there's the "anomaly" of the Virgin's cruciform halo --not much
escapes Zarnecki's sharp eye.
