medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
My memory is that the feast of St. Joseph the Worker was established by Pius
XII to counter the Marxist and Communists' celebration of workers on Mayday,
particularly in Italy, a center of leftist activity in the postwar period.

1955. This resulted in Philip and James being shifted to 11 May - they were
subsequently shunted to 3 May (possibly when the Invention of the Cross was
suppressed in 1960).
