medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear All,
I do hope no one will consider this an ill use of this list. I am writing
because I am trying get some actual, proper, accurate, information about
Blaian of Ibelin, the 12th century Frankish nobleman who Ridley Scott has
made the hero of his new epic film "Kingdom of Heaven," which opens on May
6. I am currently teaching a course on the crusades, and I am arranging to
take the class, as a class, to see the film the following Monday (5/9). I
lecture on the Third Crusade next week and am envisioning my task to give
them the basic narrative information they will need in order to go see the
film with some critical ability. I would like to give them some basic
background on Balian, but frankly, do not know where to look. Does anybody
know what is known about him? And could either point me in the proper
direction and/or tell me what is known?
In advance, with thanks
cecilia
