In the case of Adrian VI it was the Spanish Inquisition (rather
unexpected...), although I don't think he was actually Grand Inquisitor,
whereas it was the Roman Inquisition in the cases of Paul IV and Pius V.
Sixtus V doesn't seem to have been much more of an Inquisitor than Gregory
XIII, Urban VII or Clement VIII - they had all been sent by Rome to see what
the Spanish Grand Inquisitor was up to when he had snared the Archbishop of
Toledo.
