of course, representations of the first two Joyes were very common, in many
media, throughout the high and late m.a.
in the visual arts, the Visitation is very frequently shown with a
"quickening", but it is John inside Elizabeth which doing the dancing, with
the BVM reacting or placing a hand on her stomach.
i can't recall any depiction of this Tierce Joye --as presented here-- in
medieval art.
i wonder if your late medieval source here has misread which figure is which
in a Visitation scene?
usually there is no ambiguity, since Elizabeth is considerably older than Mary
and is depicted as such.
just a thought.
