medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I do not know the study quoted by Nancy but, if it is based on baptismal
records of babies
and burial records of mothers, could it not have fewer babies in it than it
should? If, as is quite likely, the baby died at, before, or during the
process of, birth, it would not have been able to be baptised so it would
not appear in church records along with its mother.
Regards
Rosemary Hayes
