medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Thanks to everyone for your instantaneous responses. Of course it was a
simple solution rather than anything more invovled...
The Lexikon des Mittelalters gives three passages from the Book of
Revelations (chapters 2, 6, 15) where Nicolaites are mentioned.
According to this source, it was only in the eleventh century that followers
of the Gregorian reform applied this term to married clergy or clerics
living together with women.

Try "Nicolaitism," which brings 143 hits on google.com (the name is derived
from
Revelation 2.15, which warns against the "teachings of the Nicolaitans,"
without
further specification; some have connected this name with the "proselyte"
Nicolaus of Acts 6.7, but without any ancient evidence).
