I am describing the Sarum Use, of course - and I hadn't even mentioned the
procession! This is how an 'ordinary' procession forms up, facing the
altar:
Virger, carrying his wand of office
Acolyte, carrying processional cross
Two taperers, carrying candles
Thurifer, carrying censer
Subdeacon, carrying text
Deacon
Book-boy, carrying book needed by officiant
Officiant
Water-boy, on Officiant's right, carrying water
Choir, in stalls
Bishop, carrying his staff, enthroned.
