Dear All,
I'd just like to introduce myself as the new list-owner of lis-pub-libs.
My name is Marieke Guy and I am a member of the Interoperability Focus
Team based at UKOLN, University of Bath. The lis-pub-libs list seems to
be pretty active and running along comfortably, but if there are any
problems please let me know using [log in to unmask]
Apologies if you've heard this before but just a brief reminder on
vacations and out-of-office replies.
If you go off on holiday or won't be checking your email for a few days
you might usually set up an out-of-office reply. You may not be aware
that this in turn means that anyone who posts a message to lis-pub-libs
while you are away will automatically receive a message from you - which
can be quite annoying and on some mailing lists (not jiscmail) can cause
serious problems. This can be avoided. Within most email software that
lets you set up out-of office replies there is usually the option to add
rules to exclude messages from mailing lists. If you are unsure about
this your systems people should be able to help.
One other option, and also a good way to cut down the number of messages
in your inbox on your return(!), is to switch to a digest subscription
(once a day) or stop all list messages entirely during the time you are
away. This is very easy to do. You just need to go to Subscriber's
Corner on the jiscmail site and under the heading Report Columns tick
the boxes Mail Style and Mail Status then press 'Submit'. The mailing
lists you are subscribed to will be listed and you have the option to
unsubscribe from them, temporarily disable mail delivery or change to a
digest email. More information on subscriptions is given at:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/using/subscriptions.htm
I hope you find this useful.
Thanks
Marieke
