Diversity in Practice: Implementing the inclusion agenda in art and
design
3-4 March 2005
Venue : Rootstein Hopkins Space, London College of Fashion, University
of the Arts London.
This two day conference hosted by London College of Fashion and CHEAD
is aimed at a range of higher education staff who who support students
who are studying art and design in the higher education sector,
including :
· lecturers
· course leaders
· technical and support staff
· learning development staff
· those concerned with widening participation initiatives
It offers an opportunity to explore some of the theoretical and
practical issues in implementing the inclusion agenda and to hear how
those issues are being addressed in universities and colleges across the
UK.
Key speakers include : Professor Joy Mighty (Head of the Instructional
Development Centre at Queens University, Canada) ,Dianna Yach (lawyer,
and consultant on equal opportunities legislation) Carol Tulloch (Senior
research fellow at the University of the Arts and co-curator of the
exhibition Black British Style at the V&A) Kevin Whitson ( Head of
Widening Participation at HEFCE) and Dr Caroline Hudson (Researcher :
CHEAD Inclusion Project) . A series of workshops led by art and design
practitioners from across the UK will address issues such religious and
cultural diversity, linking with local ethnic communities, supporting
students with mental health issues, including disabled students in the
creative and performing arts, supporting deaf student and working with
students with learning support needs.
